Advanced Abdominal Cancer

Advanced abdominal cancer refers to cancers that originate in organs within the abdominal cavity—such as the stomach, liver, pancreas, gallbladder, intestines, or peritoneum—and have progressed to an advanced stage. At this stage, the tumor may have grown significantly, invaded nearby tissues, or spread (metastasized) to other organs, making treatment more complex. Symptoms often include persistent abdominal pain, bloating, unexplained weight loss, loss of appetite, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, or changes in bowel habits. Treatment typically involves a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and palliative care to relieve symptoms and improve quality of life. Early detection is challenging, so prognosis in advanced abdominal cancer depends on the type, extent of spread, and response to treatment. Multidisciplinary care from oncologists, surgeons, and supportive care teams is crucial for optimal management.
