Liver Cancer

Liver cancer is a type of cancer that begins in the cells of the liver, the large organ responsible for vital functions like detoxification, protein production, and digestion. The most common form is hepatocellular carcinoma, which originates from liver cells called hepatocytes. Liver cancer often develops in people with chronic liver diseases such as hepatitis B or C infections, cirrhosis, or fatty liver disease. Symptoms may include abdominal pain, swelling, weight loss, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), and fatigue. Diagnosis is usually made through imaging tests like ultrasound, CT scan, MRI, and confirmed by biopsy. Treatment depends on the stage and may involve surgery, liver transplant, ablation therapies, chemotherapy, or targeted drugs. Early diagnosis is essential for better prognosis.
