Pancreatic Cancer

Pancreatic cancer is a serious and aggressive cancer that begins in the tissues of the pancreas, an organ located behind the stomach that plays a crucial role in digestion and blood sugar regulation. It often goes undetected in its early stages because symptoms are usually vague or absent. When symptoms do appear, they may include abdominal pain, jaundice (yellowing of the skin and eyes), unexplained weight loss, and digestive problems. The most common type is pancreatic adenocarcinoma, which arises from the cells lining the pancreatic ducts. Risk factors include smoking, chronic pancreatitis, diabetes, family history, and obesity. Diagnosis involves imaging tests like CT scans, MRI, endoscopic ultrasound, and biopsy. Treatment options depend on the cancer’s stage and may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, or targeted therapies. Early diagnosis is challenging but essential for improving outcomes.
